Prince Bandung Bondowoso who defeats and kills Princess Rara's father is mesmerized by the beauty of mourning princess and proposes marriage. Princess denies instantly but the Prince insists. She finally agrees on two conditions: first the prince must build a well and second, he must construct a thousand temples in only one night(later known as Prambanan). The blind in love Prince agrees and starts the construction. He finishes the well and shows it to his sweetheart. The Princess requests him to step inside and with help of her allies, piles stones, buries him alive. The Prince escapes. For his true love he continues to work on the temples. He manages to complete 999 temples when Rara deceives the workers (spirits), leaving the last temple unfinished. The furious Prince curses Rara that transforms her into a stone sculpture completing the construction of the 1000th Temple 'Prambanan' and hence completing the conditions of the union. by shaesha
