The Cenotaph, Singapore This memorial was built in 1922 to remember the 124 British soldiers who gave their lives in World War 1 (1914-1918) in Singapore. The memorial was unveiled on 31 March 1822 by then-Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII). The inscription at the base reads 'They died that we might live.' Scripted on the steps of one side of the structure are the WW1 years, and the WW2 years (1939-1945) on the other side. #worldwar2 #worldwartwo #war #totaldefence #warmemorial #memorial #singapore #history #singaporehistory #structure #civilianwarmemorial #singaporean #heritage #architecture #arkiromantix #architecturephotography #architecturalphotography #monument #worldwar1 #ww1 #sepoymutiny #british #history #warhistory #militaryhistory #asia by vienna_west
