Heritage Photos: Previously named the church of San Miguel, the Santa Monica Parish Church was built in 1779 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. It's the largest church in Ilocos Norte and became the venue of the grand June wedding of the late President Marcos' youngest daughter, Irene, to Gregorio Araneta in 1983. In August of the same year, an intensity 5.3 earthquake hit the province, damaged the red brick facade of the church, and destroyed the belfry. A recent occular visit to the church for structural assessment yielded recommendations for technical assistance from national cultural heritage agencies.
