Majdal: The Land. Comprising around 1,200 acres of land and located between 300-720 meters above sea level: the Majdal estate is planted with some 30,000 olive trees of which 22,000 are in full production. The area which is mountainous receives a large amount of winter and spring rain, lending to a robust cultivation of fine olive trees. In hot summers there are two supplementary irrigations from an artesian well on the estate, however, for all practical purposes the olive trees are rain-fed. Altitude, lack of humidity and the absence of summer rain all mean that the Mediterranean fruit fly and other pests do not pose any real problems. No pesticides have ever been used. Aside from olive trees, the estate is also home to ancient oak and pine trees; as well as fig, almond, walnut and pomegranate trees. by majdaloo
